At Whipsnade zoo; part of London zoo they had the birth of
a baby elephant a few months ago. Now
the baby elephant and the rest of the family need to take a bath each day.

The baby elephant adores his bath time running up to the
keepers and just waiting for the water and shampoos to start. He jumps slightly in the air and rolls around
but the keepers manage to get him clean from top to bottom.

Once he has had a good wash and scrub they rinse him down
and smooth over his hide. They he is
free to play about in the large elephant grounds there.

Guess what? The first
thing he does is to roll about in the mud.

This is actually a natural and good thing, especially now
that there is a bit of sunshine about.
The mud conditions his skin and acts as a sunscreen so he won’t get too
hot in the sun and his skin won’t burn and hurt him.

He still loves his bath time and the keepers love showering
him.
